Website Answers
What do I need to provide for my website?
To build your website you mainly need content: your business details, service descriptions, a logo, some photos and a domain name. Rough drafts are fine to start.
Short answer: To build your website you mainly need content: your business details, a description of your services, a logo, a handful of photos, and a domain name. None of it needs to be polished at the start, rough drafts are genuinely fine, but the sooner it exists, the faster your site goes live.
The essentials
Here is what actually moves a project forward. Most of it you already have in your head or on your phone.
- Business details. Your trading name, phone number, email, area you cover, and opening hours if relevant. This is the information a customer needs to contact you.
- Services or products. A list of what you offer, with a sentence or two on each. For a shop, that means the products, prices and delivery details.
- A logo. If you have one, great. If not, it can be created for you.
- Photos. Pictures of your work, your team, or your premises. More on these below.
- A domain name. Your web address, like yourbusiness.co.uk.
That is the core of it. Everything else, from layout to colours to how it reads on a phone, is handled in the web design process.
Content: the part that decides your timeline
The single biggest factor in how quickly your site launches is your content. Not the design, not the technical work, the words and images you supply.
You do not need to be a writer. What helps is giving the raw material: what you do, who you do it for, why someone should pick you over the next firm, and any details a customer always asks about. From there the copy can be shaped and tightened. If you would rather not write anything, say so early and it can be handled.
The reason this matters is simple. A build waiting on content is a build standing still. Having your notes ready when you pay your deposit is what keeps a project inside the usual two to four week timeline.

Photos and branding
Photos trip people up more than anything else, so it is worth planning for.
Good, real photos of your actual work beat stock images every time. A customer can tell the difference, and it builds trust. You do not necessarily need a professional shoot, decent phone photos in good light often do the job. Do I need professional photos for my website covers when a proper shoot is worth it and when it is not.
Branding is the other piece. If you already have a logo and colours, provide them. If you do not, or yours looks dated, it can be sorted first. Our branding service handles logos and colour palettes, and do I need a brand identity before a website explains whether to do it first or alongside.
What you do not need to worry about
It is worth saying what is not your job. You do not need to understand hosting, SSL, mobile responsiveness, or how Google indexes pages. All of that is handled for you.
You do not need every word perfect before starting either. Content evolves during the review stage, which is exactly what that stage is for. And you do not need to make technical decisions you are not comfortable with, that is what you are paying for.
So the short version: gather your business details, list your services, dig out some photos, sort your domain, and provide a logo if you have one. Bring those, even in rough form, and the rest is handled. If you are still not sure what your project needs, get a clear price and it will become clear quickly.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to write all the words myself?
No. Rough notes are enough to start, and a good designer will help shape them into clear copy. You just need to provide the raw facts about your business.
What if I do not have a logo yet?
That is fine. A logo can be designed as part of the project, so you do not need branding finished before you begin building the site.
Do I need to buy the domain before we start?
It helps but is not essential on day one. The domain can be sorted during the build, and it gets connected right before launch.
